Hello DT Sharon here and today I would like
to show you a mixed media journal cover featuring the lovely
" Seamus "
stamped onto calico.
I am not a
sewer nor do I work in fabric so I did not have any fabric, lace etc in
my stash but I found some great sellers on Etsy who sell little packs
for a very low price. A great idea if you want a little taster. Materials:
Just a Girl and Her Imagination stamp set
Journal Blank
Hessian
Calico
Paints
Fabric Pens
Odd ends of fabric, lace and felt
Buttons, ribbon, thread etc
Ink pad in Brown First I covered my blank journal with some hessian. I found the best way
to do this was to use an adhesive sheet. I then dry brushed over some
paint to give it a more distressed look.
I gave my little fabric pieces some texture by adding dry brushed paint and inked a little vintage photo around their edges.
I cut two hearts, one in fabric and one in felt. I edged the fabric with
ink. For the felt heart I added a button with some green embroidery
thread throught the middle and tied and then made some french knots.
On one piece of fabric I added some very "rustic" hand stitching and ink and to some lace I added some cross stitch and ink.
Arrange your fabric, lace and hearts onto the journal but don't stick them down until you are completely happy with the arrangement. I used collall glue and it worked pretty well.
Now stamp Seamus and his sunflower onto the calico with Versacraft ink. I heat set it a little with my heat gun. When dry cut him out in your preferred shape. Because the calico was so thin I was able to use a die on my Sizzix.
Colour the image in. I used some fabric pens that I had to go with my Cricut machine but there are plenty of mediums that can colour on fabric too. I used felt for Seamus's clothes. I just stamped onto the felt with the versacraft and then cut out carefully.
To finish the cover off I added some little white pearls, a button to the middle of the sunflower and a piece of elastic with a button for the closure.
I was quite apprehensive making this as I've never worked with stamping on fabric but it was a really enjoyable, easy project and I'll definately be doing it again.
Tracy's products are available to buy in her etsy shop here
If you decide to do something similar I'd love to see it on the
Have a lovely weekend !
