Shoot for the moon with Morty!

Hellooooo everyone, it’s me again, Loti, this time with a little square card that I thought was suitable for all kinds of occasions. I know recently I have gone through lots of changes with new jobs and moving house and I think there’s lots of change for everyone around the corner in these times, so let’s shoot for the moon together with Morty!

You Will Need:
- Ruler or Instant Photo Template
- Micron Pen/Fineliner Pen
- Cloud mask (or just paper cut into shapes!)
- Blending brush or smoothie
- Distress Oxides in blue and yellow
- A Waterbrush
- Watercolours or a colouring medium of some sort
- Spare card to mask off parts
- Washi tape or patterned card
You will learn:
- Masking
- Stenciling
- Stamping
- A way to use washi tape
To Start ...
Draw an instant photo, whether it be with a template, stencil or a good old fashioned ruler!

Stamp Morty onto a spare piece of card and cut him out, to make a mask. Tape the mask down with washi tape so he’s positioned in the frame.

Use a cloud stencil, or piece of paper cut into cloud shapes to ink a cloud background. I used distress oxide colour Speckled Egg for this. Also a top tip from me is to swipe up lightly from the mask to the paper and layer up the colour gently.

Stamp the moon in Distress Oxide, I used Fossilised Amber.

Colour the moon with a water brush dragging the distress oxide ink into the middle of the image. Add some more if you need to for a stronger tone. I decided to stamp the moon detail in Versafine black afterwards so the black outline would match Morty’s.

Mask off the sides of the instant photo and stamp Morty so his head and clothing only appear in the frame, and not outside.

Colour in Morty and his clothes, I used Prima watercolours and a waterbrush.

You can either cut out your instant photo and mount it onto coloured card or, I decided to washi tape around the outsides to give that patterned paper look.

Stamp your sentiment with the words provided in the Morty Bottoms Stargazer stamp set.

Mount onto a black card blank and you are all done!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, are feeling inspired and maybe learnt a new technique or two. I’d love to see your work over in Tracy’s Facebook group. See you next time!

  2. Loti thank you so much. It is probably obvious to most people but I had never thought to make a mask of a character to leave room to stamp in a totally clear space. Now you have said it it's so common sense. I love this piece and I am going to have a go with my most recent purchase of Tracy's stamps. You certainly don't know what you don't know and I am learning so much from this blog and all of the brilliant crafters on here
