Galaxy Quest ...

Hellooooo! Andy here. Lovely to be back with my next tutorial,  I hope you enjoy.
Back a few weeks ago I posted Flooooobert on the 'Friends of Tracy Easson Illustrations' page and was asked how the background was done.
As promised, I have done a wee video tutorial showing the materials and stages that I go through when doing a galaxy.

So let me present Galaxy Quest: The Search for More Colour, featuring  our beautiful wee couple Whispering Sweet Nothings.
Click on the link below and it will take you to My YouTube video.

As promised on the video, I have some photos of how the colours were laid down on Whispering Sweet Nothings.
I have done this as we all work in different mediums and someone may be looking for a new way to work or a new medium to try.
I'm not saying that this is the right way as I'm self taught, I just thought it may be a starting point on a new path. Hope it helps. Xx
I often stamp off with Ink on 3 fade out. It's fabulous, it takes on the colour laid down over it and gives a fabulous delicate finish. A change from Black.
When I first open my paint box, I give it a good spray to start loosening the colour in the pans. When I'm working I tend to take paint from the pan to a palette, and then take the paint from there (after adding water or mixing colour) to the paper.
I put a light wash of yellow on the moon to give it a little shine. Working quickly while it is still wet, I put a stronger line of yellow down one edge, dry off the brush, and blend.
This is how I tend to work all my shading with the watercolour, as you can see with the mouse heads.
To give a softer feathered edge to the craters, I wet the area and a little way around it, dab the darker colours in the middle and let it bleed out.
Then I shade the little ladies jacket using the same method as the moon.
Leaving the blue coat to dry, I colour the wee lads bottom and their socks and scarves. Then, moving on to the pink coat, I build the shading along edges and creases.
I finish them off with their little boots. Finally I fussy cut the image, wrap some twine on the moon and they are ready to go.
Xxx

Your Background and couple are then ready for your card, journal book or a mixed media project.
Hope you have fun looking forward to seeing your creations.

I hope that you have enjoyed my little show and tell.
Thanks for following.
Hugs Andy

If you do not yet have Flooooobert or Whispering Sweet Nothings, you can find the wee darlings at Tracy's Etsy Store.
